2024 NFL Draft: Ranking The Position Groups
It’s time. The 2024 NFL Draft is here. As fans gear up for the big night, I just quickly wanted to run through each position group to identify the strength of this draft class. I’m so done with intro paragraphs and desperately need a vacation so I’m just going to dive right into things.
12: Running Back (Rankings found here!)
Stinks. What else is there to say? Entire class stinks. I think you’re an insane person pulling the trigger on any of these guys before the 5th round. It’s human evolution. All of the good athletes want to be receivers. It is what it is.
11: Guard (Rankings found here!)
A lot of yuck here. Might be two to three guards that actually make an impact. The rest of the class you’re lucky if they’re on your roster five years later.
10: Tight End (Rankings found here!)
Brock Bowers really saves things here. Ja’Tavion Sanders helps too. Just don’t love the depth after. I guess that’s the case for most tight end draft classes. Just a hard position to find.
9: Safety (Rankings found here!)
No guy at the top who is truly elite. Without the Georgia guys, this class would stink. Some depth pieces in this group but the list of Pro Bowlers is probably short. Maybe zero.
8: Linebacker (Rankings found here!)
I love three. The rest of the class is a bunch of dart throws. Then again, three studs is better than you can say about some of the other position groups.
7: Center (Rankings found here!)
Center is a hard position to find. Not in this draft. This class gifts us like five guys who should be able to start for teams. That doesn’t always happen. This class has the potential to do just that.
6: Edge Rusher (Rankings found here!)
Pretty solid group. Definitely a decent list of names. Not a ton of top end talent but a good list of contributors.
5: Defensive Tackle (Rankings found here!)
Now we start getting to the good stuff. This class is packed with defensive tackles all over the place. I’ll take three if I have enough picks to make it happen. Studs all over the place that can muddy the paint.
4: Cornerback (Rankings found here!)
Really nice corner class. Has a mixture of everything. Bunch of guys littered throughout the top four rounds that will help teams. It doesn’t always happen that way.
3: Offensive Tackle (Rankings found here!)
Stupid top end depth at tackle this year. It’s rare you see that many tackles that can truly step in and be a franchise anchor. It falls off quick but that’s the case every year. Still, a good handful of players that will make a strong impact.
2: Quarterback (Rankings found here!)
Hard to hate the QB class this year. Has a bit of everything that makes a strong class. The elite Caleb Williams at the top. A toolsy guy like Drake Maye. A wildcard with high upside in JJ McCarthy. A duel threat player with high end rushing ability in Jayden Daniels. The ultimate project in Joe Milton. Even productive older college guys who might be good enough to start early with Michael Penix and Bo Nix. Compare that to the year Kenny Pickett went first and I don’t think teams will complain about this.
1: Wide Receiver (Rankings found here!)
It’s insane how many talented receivers keep entering the league. It feels like they’re growing on trees. Plus, you have the MFer in this draft with Marvin Harrison Jr. Has a ton of guys even in the deep rounds that will help teams.
