More Headlines Surrounding Kevin Love
Cleveland Cavaliers’ disgruntled forward Kevin Love, after an injury-plagued season in 2020-2021, asked Jerry Colangelo if he could play for Team USA. When asked how his shape was going into the off-season, the answer Love gave Colangelo and the reality of the matter were two completely different things. He withdrew from the Olympics, citing that he still hadn’t fully recovered from the calf injury that kept him out much of last season. Needless to say, no one was too happy with what transpired.
Full quote from ProBasketballTalk via NBCSports.com:
“I didn’t think Kevin Love was gonna play. I wasn’t even sure he had much left to play. He reached out to us and said he was in shape and said he felt he owed us. And on the basis of that, we’re looking at someone with international experience who at one time was a heck of a rebounder and could still shoot the ball. You know, being like a 12th man on a roster. Well, it didn’t work out. He wasn’t in shape. And he was way behind as it turned out. So you move on. Call it a mistake. Call it giving someone an opportunity. Someone who had equity with us. Guys who play for us get a little plus.”
You can make the argument that the blame should fall on Colangelo, not Kevin Love. He should have had him checked out by the team doctors and trainers before letting him just walk onto the team. But at the same time, Love should have been clear from the jump that he wasn’t 100%, or maybe not even asked at all. Whatever the case may be, this is just another blemish on the downward spiral that is Kevin Love and his career.
