Jayson Tatum: Celtics ‘Lucky’ To Have Kristaps Porzingis

It took exactly one game for Jayson Tatum to be sold on Kristaps Porzingis. It’s hard not to be after that debut performance by Porzingod. The 30 points that Porzingis scored during the 2023-24 NBA Season opener against his old team were the most points ever posted in a debut game for the Celtics.

After the game, Tatum raved about Porzingis. He says the Celtics are really lucky to have Porzingis in green.

“He just makes us that much more dynamic, obviously, with his size, ability to shoot, make plays off the dribble,” Tatum told reporters, per The Boston Globe. “When they double me late, make the right play, find an open man. Obviously, he can shoot from wherever. I mean, he’s really good. He’s really, really good. We’re lucky to have him.”

It’s hard not to be excited about what Porzingis brings to the table. I tried to warn everyone when this trade went down. The Celtics have a real third guy now. A big that can actually put the ball in the net, rebound, and block shots. All things Boston didn’t have in years past.

Banner 18 feels like a real possibility and I was not on that train before the trade. Porzingis is going to have a big impact on this team. Boston just needs to find a way to keep the 7-foot-3 unicorn healthy for when the real games begin in the postseason. That’s really the only question mark when it comes to Porzingis at this point.
