Jayden Daniels isn’t just on fire to start his NFL career. He’s doing things no other rookie quarterback has ever done. The first round pick out of LSU as thrown for 1,135 yards and four touchdowns. Also, add in 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns through five starts. A 77% completion percentage for a rookie is no joke.
For whatever reason, everyone wants to compare him to Lamar Jackson now. The Commanders quarterback sets the record straight and wants everyone to know he hates to comps.
“I don’t like when people try to compare me to Lamar,” Daniels said. “We’re two different players. I want to be known as Jayden Daniels and not the next such-and-such.”
“I like watching good quarterback play,” Daniels said. “I’m a fan of his, and how he plays the game, how he approaches the game. But we’re two different quarterbacks, two different styles. I appreciate what he’s done for the sport and what he’s done for the African American quarterbacks.”
“But for me it’s just, go out there and try to be unique and try to be different from everybody,” Daniels said. “Appreciate what they do because you can always learn from other quarterbacks in the league. I’m not closed-minded.”
Credit to Daniels. This is some high self-awareness right here. Screw Lamar. Daniels should aim way higher than that. Who wants to be compared to a guy who historically stinks during postseason play and can’t sniff Joe Flacco’s postseason win number? The way Daniels is playing, he’s on pace to be a way better version of Lamar.
