Colbie Young joined the Georgia football team after transferring in from Miami. We may have already seen the last of him with the Dawgs. The 6-foot-3 wide receiver has been suspended by the program following his recent arrest.
“He’s been suspended indefinitely until this legal matter is resolved,” Smart said on the weekly SEC coaches teleconference. “We can’t really comment any further on the specifics of it, but I had a good meeting with him this morning. We’re committed to continuing to educate our players and do the best job we can of making sure they understand the serious nature of these incidents.
“It’s very unfortunate, but we want to be responsible in decision-making on and off the field. This is obviously a really tough situation.”
We’ll see what ends up happening here but it doesn’t sound good. It all stems from a dispute with an ex-girlfriend. If you want to know more about what’s going on, fire up the Google machine. I’m sure you can find plenty. Regardless of how this shakes out, it’s hard to count on Young being out there again for Georgia.
From an on-field perspective, I’m not sure the Dawgs are really missing much. I don’t think he’s played well this year. He was awful against Alabama, and Dominic Lovett has emerged as the offense’s top target. On the season, Young has 11 receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Arian Smith and London Humphreys will get extra looks in the offense with Young out of the picture.
