Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell had some words for Deion Sanders ahead of the Rocky Mountain Showdown. On Jay Norvell’s weekly coaches show Wednesday, he seemed to let out some frustration regarding the way Sanders and his team operate.
“I sat down with ESPN today,” Norvell said. “I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder. I told them, I took my hat off and I took my glasses off. I said when I talk to grown ups, I take my hat off and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me. (Colorado’s) not going to like us no matter what we say or do.”

This quote quickly generated some buzz and was posted on almost every major news outlet you can think of; due to the traction Norvell was receiving, Sanders came back with his own response.
“Why would you want to talk about us when we don’t talk about nobody?” Sanders asked rhetorically. “All we do is go out here, work our butts off, and do our job on Saturday. But when they give us ammunition, they done messed around and made it what? Personal!”
“It was just gonna be a good game, but they done messed around and made it PERSONAL”

We saw last weekend what happens when it becomes “personal” with Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes. Colorado took care of Nebraska 36-14 after Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule allegedly “disrespected” Colorado’s logo.
It seems like Norvell is just trying to get some much-needed publicity around a Colorado State team that has been terrible the last few years.
Although Colorado has had a poor track record as well, they have quickly become the talk of the nation this season. This newfound success for Colorado has seemed to upset a lot of people, and coach Norvell is definitely one of them. Still, it just doesn’t make sense for Colorado State to poke the bear as 23.5-point underdogs heading into Saturday’s game, at the time of this writing.
