Jason Rowley, Suns President, CEO Resigns

Jason Rowley, the Phoenix Suns President, and CEO resigned from his position Monday, Feb. 6th, according to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes.

Rowley is amidst the allegations of sexual, and verbal misconduct in the workplace against the Phoenix Suns, and more specifically against former Suns’ and Mercury owner Robert Sarver.

Sarver is long gone, but the misconduct clearly didn’t end at just him. The Phoenix Suns had produced a toxic workplace where employees were mistreated.

It is widely believed- as well as reported on- that Robert Sarver and Jason Rowley’s culture of misogyny and sexual misconduct spread like wildfire throughout the Phoenix Suns organization. When the league hired highly regarded Wachtell Lipton lawyers to probe Sarver’s tenure, reports came out that what many people believed was true.

“Many current and former executives and employees told investigators they believed Sarver’s conduct had a trickle-down effect: he behaved poorly toward his direct reports, and those reports, in turn, felt they had license to mistreat their own reports,” the report said.

Sarver was fined 1 year and $10 million dollars for violations of workplace conduct on Sept. 13, 2022. He then sold the team after immense public pressure just a week later. Allegations range from “use of the N-word” to “instances of inequitable conduct toward female employees,” and more.

The Suns’ new owner was one up for guesswork. Some deduced that anyone from Jeff Bezos to Jay-Z could potentially purchase the franchise. Billionaire Mat Ishbia emerged and finalized a deal to buy the team in December.

Obviously, the fewer people that we have in the NBA like Robert Sarver and Jason Rowley the better. I believe that for the next few months and maybe even years, the people responsible for this scandal will be brought forward and removed.

To torch the fire even further, Rowley lied to his co-workers and colleagues at the Suns. He claimed he would not resign, and that the allegations that were being presented were misrepresenting him.

Yea, it’s definitely a good thing that this guy “resigned” (we all know he didn’t resign on his own merit.) I don’t like to wish for someone else’s downfall, but it seems that the culture and the direction of the front office of the Phoenix Suns is/was doomed. Cleaning house is not only the right move, but it’s also starting to look like the only move.
