Jase McClellan 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Alabama has a running back in the draft and for some reason, they’re not really in the spotlight. A rarity for a school that produces so many good ones. Jase McClellan is the topic today and maybe this will shine more limelight on a player that needs it. Here is your 2024 NFL Draft profile on the Crimson Tide running back.

McClellan was the starter for Alabama this year and it was noticeable. Outside of a few flash runs from Justice Haynes, there was a significant drop off any time Roydell Williams came in to give him a carry off. On the season, McClellan had 180 carries for 890 yards and eight touchdowns. For what it’s worth, he also had three receiving touchdowns in 2021 and 2022. He can make plays in both the run and pass game.

We don’t have anything to work with from McClellan at the Combine other than the fact that he ripped out 20 reps on the bench. A really good number for a back that checks in at 5-foot-10, 221. For that weight, I think McClellan is really gifted in the speed department. We don’t have a 40 to prove it but he has a second gear when you watch him play. Had an 80 yard bomb run as a freshman and a 81 yard house call in 2022. His speed element pops on the screen. When Alabama didn’t have him available, their running back took a massive hit.

A true three down presence. Think he can thrive in one of those zone schemes where he puts the foot in the ground and goes. Not grease lightning in the knees but has enough wiggle and has talent in the route running department. Absorbs contact well. Doesn’t go down right away. Maybe not described as a true burner but has shown he can make big runs happen. Probably a 4.50 guy if I had to guess based on what my eyes say. A one cut slasher that can get the job done.

Listed as a four star recruit coming out of high school. Should have tread on the tires. Wouldn’t give him a full workload. Better if you can design a few hitters for him to mix in the game as part of a rotation.

Look, this might sound crazy but I see a lot of Rashaad Penny here. Has that speed and size combo that should be intriguing to more teams. Seems to be totally off the radar despite being Alabama’s starter. I’d take him in the 6th or 7th round but that might not be necessary based on the lack of buzz. He’d be a priority after the draft as a free agent to get him added to the roster.
