Ja’Marr Chase reveals his top quarterback: “Pat Who?”

It’s hard not to know who Patrick Mahomes is unless you live under a rock. However, Cincinnati Bengals superstar receiver Ja’Marr Chase doesn’t seem to. Joking of course, but when Chase was asked to name football’s top player this week he didn’t hesitate to name his own QB, Joe Burrow.

“Burrow, everybody knows that. That’s easy. MVP,” Chase said.

“Pat who?” he added after being told Burrow himself ranked Patrick Mahomes ahead of him.

This statement makes sense of course, the pair have been best friends and teammates dating back to their college days at LSU, and have enjoyed success together at both the collegiate and professional level.

These two teams also have one of the best rivalries in the NFL right now, with the Bengals and Chiefs meeting in the AFC Championship for two years straight and splitting those matchups.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Joe Burrow was asked if it was him or Mahomes at the top of the league at quarterback. He admitted that Mahomes is the best in the world right now, but that he didn’t care about rankings and was focused on getting back to the Super Bowl and improving on his game.

Burrow is no slouch though. Since entering the league in 2020, he has amassed 11,774 yards, 82 passing touchdowns with a 100.4 passer rating while having the NFL’s best completion percentage at 68.2 percent. He also won the 2021 Comeback Player of the Year award and was fourth in MVP voting in 2022. Burrow — who’s 3-1 as a starter against Mahomes, including the playoffs — also helped the Bengals reach Super Bowl LVI, falling short against the Los Angeles Rams.

Mahomes, however, is a two-time regular-season MVP who’s already led Kansas City to two Super Bowl titles in three appearances. The 2017 No. 10 overall pick won his second MVP in 2022 after leading the NFL with 5,250 yards and 41 touchdown passes. He was then named Super Bowl LVII MVP after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles.

These two exciting, young teams will meet once again in 2023 when Cincinnati heads to Kansas City in Week 17.
