Ja’Marr Chase Could Miss Week 10 Against Texans

In the Bengals’ Sunday night win over the Buffalo Bills, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase landed awkwardly on his back on a deep ball. He was slow to get up and dealt with soreness the entire rest of the game.

Chase admitted that the soreness got worse over the course of the game and didn’t speak to the media after the game, which he usually does.

I’m alive, that’s the best thing right now,” Chase said Monday when asked how he’s feeling, via Cincinnati Bengals Talk. “I fell on my back. As for right now, that’s all I know.

When asked if he was going to dial it back at practice, Chase told reporters that he “wasn’t sure” and would “see what happens.”

All I can do right now is pray and be a good teammate and be there for those guys and try to get healthy,” Chase said. “That’s the only thing I can do right now. Everybody is counting on me to be healthy.

Injury Update

Cut to Wednesday, and Chase shows up as DNP (did not participate) on the injury report. Obviously, the injury is worse than just soreness, but it’s unclear what the real culprit is.

Head coach Zac Taylor was asked Monday about Ja’Marr’s status for next Sunday, but emphasized that he didn’t want to make a decision quite yet.

I was just with him, he’s sore right now,” Taylor said. “It’s impossible to say the day after the game, so we’ll just take it day to day with him. That’s not trying to raise any warning signs or anything like that, just right now it’s sore.

The Bengals take on C.J. Stroud and the Texans coming off a huge win over the Tampa Bay Bucs. Stroud threw for 470 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winning score with just six seconds left. However, the Texans’ defense did give up 332 yards and 37 points. Not to mention, the defense ranks 31st in opponent completion percentage (70.5%), 23rd in yards per pass (6.9) and 24th in pass yards per game (238).

Resting Chase wouldn’t be the worst idea, as the Bengals did last year when he was dealing with a hairline fracture in his hip. During that stretch of games, the Bengals went 3-1 and didn’t miss a beat. The team has a short week after their Texans matchup, where they’ll face the Ravens in Baltimore on Thursday night.
