Jake Paul has once again called out Conor McGregor. This time, Paul added a wrinkle to his callout this time though: He wants two fight McGregor in a two-fight series with one fight in boxing and the other in MMA. Paul made the callout out on FS1’s “TMZ Sports” show.
“Or we could do a two-part series,” Paul said when asked if he would prefer a boxing match against McGregor. “One boxing, one MMA in PFL. Make it happen, no problem.”

Before Paul can entertain a fight against McGregor he will have to take care of business against McGregor’s rival and MMA superstar Nate Diaz. Paul is scheduled to fight Diaz in an eight-round boxing match on August 5, 2023.
“(Diaz) wants to beat me, then go back to the UFC and fight Conor. I’mma knock him out, do what Conor couldn’t do, and then Conor’s gonna have no choice (but) to make the biggest fight in combat sports, which would be me versus him — as long as his boss and his dad lets him do it,” Paul said. “So that’s what’s funny about it is he’s gonna have to get permission. But I’m my own boss, and I get to make my own decisions, and I would love to see that fight and make that fight happen.”

Let’s be honest, there are a ton of barriers that are preventing a fight between Paul and McGregor. To start, McGregor recently coached on The Ultimate Fighter Season 31 against Michael Chandler. Now, a fight between the two is in the works. That pushes this hypothetical bout out of 2023.
The aspect that makes this bout even less likely is McGregor’s contract situation with the UFC. As McGregor is under contract with the UFC, he can not compete outside of the organization unless the UFC allows him. Furthermore, Paul has signed an MMA contract with PFL, meaning McGregor would have to fight with one of the UFC’s biggest competitors to fight Paul. That is not going to happen. Now, the same could have been said for Diaz. The difference is that Diaz openly asked to be released from the UFC and was able to fight out his contract.
The only way Paul and McGregor will fight is if McGregor’s MMA career goes down the drain. Essentially, McGregor would have to walk away from the UFC. That is probably not going to happen anytime soon. If McGregor brutally losses to Chandler, we may be having a different discussion.
Not to mention, the idea of seeing two fights in different sports is unappealing. The navigation of having to schedule two fights creates madness. First, you have to determine which fight starts the series. Then you have to worry about the first bout ruining the fans’ desire to see the second. For example, if McGregor knocks Paul out in a boxing match the subsequent MMA fight would be less appealing.
So, will we see Paul fight McGregor? Probably not. Will we see the two box and fight in MMA? That’s even less likely. Still, Paul is calling for it to happen and will probably continue to ask for it since they’ll only get louder if Paul continues to win fights.
