The bout has not yet been made official, however, both sides have verbally agreed to the fight. It is expected that formal contracts will be sent shortly.
Almeida, 31, has a 19-2 record in MMA. In the UFC, he has gone 5-0 record in the UFC with five finishes. In his most recent fight, he dominated Jairzinho Rozenstruik on the ground and once again proved to be an elite grappler in the heavyweight division.
Blaydes, 32, is an established heavyweight talent. Unfortunately, in his last bout, he lost to Sergei Pavlovich in a No. 1 contender’s bout. Prior to that, he was riding a four-fight win streak. Overall, he is 12-4 with one no-contest in the UFC.
This fight will serve as a tough stylistic matchup and a massive step up in competition for Almeida. Despite being unable to break through to championship contender status, Blaydes is an outstanding fighter. Additionally, he is one of the few heavyweight grapplers that will have a chance to defend the elite grappling of Almeida. Needless to say, Almeida and Blaydes pair for a very intriguing fight booking.
This bout will serve as the main event for a UFC Fight Night on Nov. 4 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This will be the UFC’s return to Sao Paulo since the COVID-19 pandemic. UFC 283, the UFC’s return to Brazil, took place in Rio de Janeiro. Almeida will serve as an outstanding up-and-comer that should have Brazilian fans excited.
