The Jaguars Will Have The First Overall Pick In Back-to-Back Years

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been embarrassed in the first two weeks of the 2021 NFL season. The Urban Meyer/ Trevor Lawrence era has gotten off to a slow start losing in week one to the Texans and in week two they fell victim to the Broncos. After drafting Lawrence #1 overall in 2021, could the Jaguars get the first pick two years in a row?

Urban Meyer Is Not An NFL Head Coach

Urban Meyer was destined to have a rough time in the NFL. Being a lifetime college coach, coming into this with no-prior NFL experience was going to pose several obstacles. Meyer is at an even bigger disadvantage because the Jaguars are easily the worst team in the league. It was not hard the predict how Meyer’s time in Jacksonville would go. Once he drafted Travis Etienne in the first round only for him to take reps at receiver, I knew he was going to be over his head. Although Meyer denied the rumors about the USC head coaching job, that USC job is going to sound pretty sweet when you go 1-16 with the Jags.

Trevor Lawrence Struggled Badly In Week Two

Lawrence may have thrown three picks in week one but he scored some promising touchdowns, week two was a different story. Against the Broncos’ defense, Lawrence went 14/33 for 118 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The Jaguars came out swinging and scored a first-quarter touchdown as Lawrence connected with Marvin Jones. After that drive, the Jaguars’ offense stalled badly and the only points they scored the rest of the day were on a kick return.

Upcoming Schedule Is Brutal

The Jaguars may be in one of the worst divisions in football in the AFC South but the rest of their schedule is pretty brutal. From week three to week thirteen, they play the Colts and Titans as well as the Bills, Dolphins, Seahawks, 49ers, Cardinals, and Rams. The only games the Jaguars have a chance of winning are against the Texans and the Jets.

I think the Jaguars win one game against Houston and finish with a record of 1-16. They will have the first overall pick again in 2022. A team having back-to-back picks has not happened since the Browns did it in 2017 and 2018. They drafted Myles Garrett and Baker Mayfield.
