Jaguars Fire Trent Baalke

I can’t believe it. Shad Khan finally woke up from his nap. After a miserable five year stint, the Jacksonville Jaguars FINALLY fired Trent Baalke.

Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:

“Following several discussions with Trent Baalke this week, we both arrived at the conclusion that it is in our mutual best interests to respectfully separate, effective immediately,” Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement.

“Trent leaves us with my deepest appreciation for his efforts over the past five seasons. Ethan Waugh will serve as interim general manager and play an important role, with others, as we continue the process of interviewing candidates to serve as our new head coach. I am deeply committed to building a winner here in Jacksonville and look forward to introducing a new head coach who will make that happen for our players and fans alike.”

Baalke, 60, guided the Jags to a 25-43 record during his tenure as GM. His record with the 49ers is significantly better but keep in mind this is the same guy who decided to fire Jim Harbaugh for Jim Tomsula because he thought the 49ers underachieved based on the roster he built. It was obviously the other way around. Harbaugh made that team good, not Baalke.

We would be here all day if I listed out all the draft days misses. Travon Walker over Aidan Hutchinson. The Anton Harrison first round pick in 2023 was tragic. The amount of money he’s overspent on painfully average wide receivers in free agency should have put him in prison. It goes on and on.

Who knows who the Jaguars hire next but they can sleep well at night knowing that they probably can’t hire someone worse. Oh, and this Baalke move comes hours after Liam Coen turned down the job. I’m sure those two things aren’t connected at all…
