During Friday’s exciting 34-13 win over the division rival New York Jets, the Miami Dolphins standout linebacker Jaelen Phillips suffered a non-contact Achilles injury. Adam Schefter reported the news.
Miami selected Phillips with the 18th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. After two years at the University of California, Los Angeles, Phillips took his talents across the country to the University of Miami. At Miami, Phillips broke out to solidify himself as a first-round talent. Posting eight sacks, one interception, three pass deflections, and 45 total tackles in his final year in college.
Late in fourth quarter, Phillips went down on a non-contact injury. As soon as the ball was snapped, Phillips lined up against Jet’s tackles, Max Mitchell. Before Phillips could take his second step, he suffered the Achilles’ injury on his right leg.

Jaelan Phillips would then be carted off by medical staff. He would not return to the game.
The Dolphins have played 11 games this season, but the former University of Miami linebacker has only appeared in eight of those games. With only eight games under his belt, Phillips has accumulated 25 total tackles along with five and a half sacks and one interception in his 2023-24 season.
Jaelan Phillips finished the game with four total tackles with three of them being solo. The 24-year-old added on one sack as well on Jets quarterback Tim Boyle. Miami finished off the game in applying pressure on the Jets backfield. Totaling up an astonishing seven sacks, eight tackles for a loss, and 12 quarterback hits.
Miami has been banged up all season, but has still managed to squeeze out an 8-3 record. The leading record in the AFC East.
Miami’s next matchup is up against the Washington Commanders on December 3rd at 12:00 pm ct.
No further update has been assessed on Phillips’ injury severity.
