Borussia Dortmund had a big win on Sunday when they beat Paderborn 6-1. Dortmund was disappointed in their loss to Bayern Munich last week but showed up for this game. There was also news with Jadon Sancho’s statement in the game.

Sancho seemed to be the star of the game when he scored a hat trick. He scored in the 57’, 74’ and 90+1’ minute of the game. After his first goal, he made sure to make his statement in his celebration.

He revealed a shirt that said “Justice for George Floyd”. This is about the African American man who died when an ex Minnesota police officer kneeled on his neck for nine minutes. This has incited protests and riots across the United States.

Other Bundesliga players Weston McKennie and Marcus Thuram had made similar tributes earlier this past weekend.

Game Recap

Thorgan Hazard started the scoring when he scored in the 54’ minute of the game. After receiving a ball from the right side of the goal line, Hazard was able to bury the ball into the net.

In the 57’ minute, Sancho scored his first goal. Julian Brandt gets the ball and takes it into the box before doing a square pass to Sancho at the top of the six. Sancho was able to aim near side and score.

Paderborn was finally able to get onto the board when they were awarded a penalty kick. In the 72’ minute Uwe Hunemeier stepped up and was able to aim at the top left to make the game 2-1.

Sancho got his second goal two minutes later when he received the ball at the top of the 18. He then curves the ball between two enclosing defenders and hit right inside the right post.

In the 85’ minute, Marcel Schmelzer was able to nick the ball from a defender and pass the ball off to Achraf Hakimi. He used a ground ball and the far post to score.

Four minutes later Axel Witsel got the ball and made an excellent cross to Schmelzer who fought off a defender to get the ball in near post.

Sancho finished off the game by getting a hat trick in overtime. On a counter-attack, Sancho got the ball and took it in to the 18. Closing in on the six, he shoots before the defender can close in on him and the keeper is coming out. This finalized the score at 6-1.

Dortmund is sitting in second place behind Munich.

Overall was a great game for Dortmund and a great way for Jadon Sancho’s statement to be made.
