J.J. McCarthy blames Michigan’s sign stealing on Ohio State

The cat is officially out of the bag. Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy has just blatantly admitted to illegal sign stealing before the NCAA national championship. On top of that, McCarthy has now doubled down and blamed Michigan’s sign stealing on rival Ohio State.

Only a few months back, the Big Ten suspended Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh for the remainder of the regular season for illegally stealing signs. Keep in mind, it is perfectly legal for a team to steal signs from an opponent to gain an advantage, but what the Wolverines did is illegal.

Harbaugh was suspended due to violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy. The conference stated that Harbaugh and Wolverines staff member Connor Stallions were, “conducting an impermissible, in-person scouting operation over multiple years, resulting in an unfair competitive advantage that compromised the integrity of competition.”

But only months later, poof, the whole scandal is pushed under the rug. No one cares about it anymore; since previously 13-0 Florida State was held out of the college football playoff, the heat was magically taken off the Wolverines. The Wolverines sneaked by the sign stealing and recruiting scandals all in one year. Crazy.

After Michigan’s Rose Bowl win over the Alabama Crimson Tide, McCarthy decided to blame Ohio State on their illegal sign stealing. McCarthy said that Michigan had to get up to the level that Ohio State was at.

“About 80 percent of teams in college football steal signs,” McCarthy said Wednesday. “We actually had to adapt because in 2019, 2020, Ohio State was stealing our signs – which is legal. We had to get up to the level that they were at and make it an even playing field.”

Does McCarthy actually know what he just said? Let me play the victim, take the heat off my school, and blame it on my rival with no physical evidence of ILLEGAL sign stealing. He even said Ohio State did it legally, but Michigan had to one-up them and do it illegally? That is ridiculous.

But now with illegal sign stealing and recruiting violations, Michigan is sneakily and happily in the National Championship.

I hope Michael Penix Jr. and the rest of Washington just absolutely rail them.
