Kevin Durant

ESPN Analyst Jay Williams has provided a response to Kevin Durant’s claims that his story is a “fucking lie.” On the KJZ radio show, Williams declared that he still stands by his claims despite the backlash from many online, including Durant himself. The 2003 All-Rookie guard even heaped praised on Durant, clarifying that his comments were meant to describe “how different KD is.” Williams leaked a likely-confidential story by claiming Durant told him at the club to stop comparing him to reigning MVP and DPOY Giannis Antetokounmpo. When the sound-byte did the rounds yesterday, Durant quickly took to social media, saying Williams cannot speak for him again while also calling the story a lie. It remains to be seen if Durant will respond to Williams once again, but Williams did mention that he “might address” comments from others on the incident.

What makes this story even more compelling is that Durant and Williams are supposedly very close. Williams collaborates with Durant’s 35 Ventures and has previously supported the Brooklyn Nets star on-air, even saying that he should be put in GOAT conversations if Brooklyn wins the title. He largely took the high road after defending himself, saying he hopes Brooklyn wins it all in 2021 and wished Durant “nothing but love and all the best success.” Durant may choose to let his play do the talking, as his return from Achilles surgery continues to be arguably the best of any professional athlete in history, and his exceptional play has even more believing that Brooklyn will be representing the Eastern Conference in the 2021 Finals, even if their squad is not fully healthy.
