Is Giannis Antetokounmpo A Loyal Guy?

Will Giannis Antetokounmpo stay in Milwaukee? Frankly, I’m sick of hearing about this two years away from free agency. Nevertheless, when someone in his camp speaks, you have to listen. Giannis is eligible to sign a 5-year, $254 max extension with the Bucks this summer. Will the Greek Freak sign the deal? Well, that remains to be seen.

Don’t freak out Bucks fans. His agent reported some encouraging news. Antetokounmpo’s agent, Alex Saratsis, of Octagon Basketball, spoke to a local Milwaukee TV station about his future:

“Giannis believes in loyalty, he believes in the people who’ve been there with him from the beginning, and I think he feels that kinship to the city because they have really helped raise him,” he said…

“Is he a client you could see staying with one team for his whole career?” asked [interviewer Pete] Zervakis.

“Yeah, I think so. Obviously everybody talks about his impending free agency, and I think everything is open,” Saratsis said. “I think he’s someone who could easily say, ‘I’d like to be in Milwaukee my entire career.’ I think he’s also someone who, depending on how the team does, could say, ‘I need a change.’ But for him, staying is absolutely a viable option.”

It sounds like Giannis really wants to stay. If the Bucks can make it to the Finals, they should feel good about keeping him. If they get upset in an early round, then the alarm bells might start going off. He has $254 million reasons to stick around. That number would drop to 4 years at $188 million if he were to sign with another team in free agency. Giannis has a chance to sign an extension in the offseason. Let’s see what happens then.
