If it wasn’t obvious the curse is working then I don’t know what else to tell you. The Eastern Conference powers are all loading up. The Lightning, Leafs, Bruins, Rangers, and Devils have all made power moves to acquire impact talent. The Carolina Hurricanes are going to come out of this deadline with Jesse Puljujärvi. A player that McJesus himself couldn’t save.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was the first to report the news:
As part of this deal, Edmonton is not retaining any salary. The full $3 million cap hit goes to Carolina. In fairness to the Canes, they have plenty of space to work with. This is what you sign up for when you trade for a bum in the form of Max Pacioretty. His cap hit is on LTIR because he never plays. Something the Carolina fans refuse to acknowledge for whatever reason. Just the prospect will head to Edmonton in return.
Puljujärvi, 24, just isn’t a good hockey player. Sorry but it’s true. Something we have been over at length. Analytical outliers exist. Draft misses exist. Yes, Puljujärvi is good defensively but he’s a negative on offense. In the modern NHL, it’s hard to carry a forward high in the pecking order that has less of a finishing rate than Pete Davidson in the streets. Congrats on your new trade acquisition. Surely this was the right call over Timo Meier?
Through 58 games, Puljujärvi has five goals and 14 total points. His chances to skate with Connor McDavid have vanished and he’s down to a 12:15 minutes of ice time with the Oilers. Rod Brind’Amour has basically earned a life time contract so Puljujärvi will likely have better results in Carolina. That should be on the record as well. It will just be a trade that’s remembered while the other East powers loaded up in a real way.
