Hunter Luepke 2023 NFL Draft Profile
Who needs a fullback? That’s the million-dollar question when it comes to Hunter Luepke. The North Dakota State product isn’t the only fullback available in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, he is for sure the most notable name to know at the position. Let’s get to know Hunter Luepke a little bit better by going over his 2023 NFL Draft profile!
For starters, this is a fullback that has real production. Yes, it’s at the FCS level. Nevertheless, Luepke rushed for 619 yards and nine touchdowns this past year. Better yet, it came on only 98 carries (6.3 yards per carry). When Luepke got his touches, he made the most of them.
The best part here is the versatility. This isn’t just a typical fullback that can run and set up blocks. This guy can line up all over the field and even played a little tight end. Receiving production is there as well hauling in four touchdowns via the air in 2022.
I don’t see Luepke has natural of an athlete that a Rhamondre Stevenson was. The recruiting background just wouldn’t support that. I’m not sure it matters much at this position but Luepke is a former two-star guy at the state of Wisconsin. Much more of a glue guy rather than someone with high upside to carry the rock 300 times at the NFL level.
Given the short yardage success the Eagles had in 2022, does this prompt more teams to look at a guy like Luepke? The Patriots, Ravens, and 49ers are teams that have functioned in the past with fullbacks and could maybe pull the trigger sooner than other interested parties. Luepke did get invited to the Senior Bowl and Combine but no 40 time and no real notes other than it looks like he has soft hands.
Expect Hunter Luepke to become the first fullback drafted. It’s more of a matter of when and who.
