The Fight Of The Decade Is No More: Hasbulla Will Not Fight Abdu Rozik

After months of build-up, including Instagram taunts and YouTube face-offs, the long-anticipated “Fight of the Decade” between Hasbulla and Abdu Rozik will not happen.

Contract negotiations appear to be the root of the issue, with Hasbulla refusing to fight for anything less than six figures. The 18-year-old social media star was reportedly offered $95,000, but he wanted close to $200,000 and when that number was not met, his parents said he could not participate in the fight. The promoter of the fight, Asxab Tameav, confirmed, according to Barstool Sports, that the fight is off because of contract negotiation issues.

I did not expect contract negotiations to be the issue that kept this fight from happening. Some saw the fight as a publicity stunt, rather than a legitimate boxing match. Both Hasbulla and Abdu Rozik suffer from dwarfism and Russia’s Dwarf Athletic Commission criticized the nature of the fight, as did Ulyana Podpalnaya, the head of the Sports Association of Young People of Russia, who criticized the fight when it was first announced.

“It’s not like it’s even a show fight – they’re paid a lot of money and it’s a show for people to laugh. There’s nothing serious about it, it’s not a sport. It’s unethical, it’s wrong, from my point of view.”

I somewhat expected for the fight to either be postponed or have to move locations, but for money to be the issue seems ridiculous. It is unfortunate news for those who wanted to watch the fight, but in a world where we let Jake Paul fight on pay-per-view and have YouTubers and TikTok personalities fight for our amusement, we should be able to work out a scenario where both Hasbulla and Rozik can finally square off.

People will tune in if the match is scheduled but for now, the “Fight of the Decade” is no more.
