Gregg Williams has been fired as the New York Jets Defensive Coordinator on Monday, December 7th. The decision comes after Gregg Williams made a questionable and rather contreversial play call to have a cover 0 in what was one of the last plays against the Las Vegas Raiders. That playcall lead to the Raiders throwing to speedster Henry Ruggs III over the top to win the game.
Assistant Head Coach Frank Bush has been named the interim defensive coordinator for the New York Jets. Gregg Williams would have been the Jets DC for 2 years if he had finished the season after being hired in January of 2019. Gregg Williams is one of the more known names in the NFL as far as coaching goes. He is known for being an aggressive play-caller. He calls numerous blitzes, more than most in the NFL.
Despite making a controversial call, Gregg Williams should have no problem finding a DC job somewhere. He might even find an HC job somewhere if he is lucky. He’s one of the most respected defensive coaches in the league. One bad call should not leave him out of the NFL for long. Even though the Jets were bad, the Jets’ defense wasn’t actually bad at all. Their defense kept them in a lot of games, or more than they should have been. Despite their 0-12 record, there were plenty of times that the Jets could have won games.
How long will it take for Williams to have another job in the NFL? Time will tell. However, he has nothing to worry about, he can’t do worse than the Jets as an organization.
