Adin Hill seems to be enjoying his time in Vegas, but what about the future? Hill is set to reach free agency after the Stanley Cup Finals and it sure sounds like the Golden Knights would prefer to hang onto the veteran goalie. In fact, it sounds like the VGK have tried to extend Hill in the past and are still hoping to get a contract extension done.
The Athletic’s Joe Smith posted a lengthy write-up on Hill. Smith notes that Vegas made an extension offer to Hill in March after he sustained a lower-body injury that kept him out for the remainder of the regular season. Apparently, it was a “nice” raise on his current $2.175 million cap hit. However, Hill preferred to pause contract talks until after the season. A very wise choice by Hill who has definitely made himself money during this playoff run.
Quick side note, don’t bother clicking the link. It’s by that trash news outlet that lies and the story is behind a paywall.
Hill, 27, was acquired by Vegas this offseason for a 4th round pick from San Jose. A trade that looks damn good in hindsight based on what Hill has provided. The former Coyotes and Sharks netminder has posted a .915 SV% during the regular season for Vegas. He’s been close to godly this postseason for the VGK notching a 9-3 record and .937 SV%.
If the Knights want to retain Hill, Robin Lehner is going to be moved. It also seems like the VGK are prioritizing Hill over Laurent Brossoit if given the choice. Right now Vegas is projected to have around $3.5 million in cap space so Lehner will need to be shipped out in order to make this happen.
