WWF legend The Iron Sheik has passed away at age 81

Today is a very sad day for professional wrestling, as the sport lost one of its most legendary performers Wednesday morning, The Iron Sheik. He was 81-years-old. Known to many as Bubba, he leaves behind an incredible professional and personal legacy. He is a WWE Hall of Famer and former WWF World Heavyweight Champion.

The news came via The Iron Sheik’s social media accounts.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of The Iron Sheik, but we also take solace in knowing that he departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come.”

During what is described as the “Golden Era” of professional wrestling, he served as arguably the biggest heel in the business. He helped majorly in getting legendary wrestlers over with the crowd, Hulk Hogan being the most notable. The Iron Sheik had an undeniable charisma matched with an incredibly underrated in-ring skill set. Those along with his larger-than-life personality allowed him to lay the groundwork for many wrestlers from diverse backgrounds to succeed following him.

The Iron Sheik had also become quite the figure amongst the online wrestling community over the last several years of his life. Much like his professional wrestling persona, you could always count on The Iron Sheik to speak his mind truthfully and authentically. He easily became one of the most notable and supported former wrestlers to be active on the social media platform.

The Iron Sheik leaves behind a family and professional legacy that will never let his name die. Rest in peace, Bubba.
