Georgetown Basketball: Micah Peavy Is Playing at an All-Big East Level

Georgetown Basketball is having a resurgent season. The Hoyas have opened the 2024-25 campaign 7-1, and TCU transfer Micah Peavy is a big reason why. His two-way brilliance, if continued, will have him on an All-Big East team and among the finalists for Big East Defensive Player of the Year at season’s end.

Second-year head coach Ed Cooley frequently praises Peavy for his defensive impact, and has already called him one of the best defenders he has ever coached. The fifth-year wing is a massive disruptor on the defensive end, frequently registering steals, blocks, and deflections. He is averaging over three steals as well as one block per game, often being called upon to shut down the opposing team’s top scorer. Against Fairfield, Peavy’s defensive acumen was on full display as he finished with nine stocks.

Offensively, Micah Peavy is also one of Georgetown’s most important players. He is averaging 14.8 points and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 48.4% from the field and 41.2% from three. Every facet of Georgetown’s offense has received a boost from his scoring and playmaking, and everything flows much better due to Peavy’s versatility as a floor spacer or third ball handler. He’s been a true Swiss Army knife.
