George Pickens is totally checked out in Pittsburgh and it couldn’t be more obvious. He wants nothing to do with this team. It’s clear he despises Mike Tomlin and would more than welcome a trade. Did anybody see him begging the Chiefs to come get him when Pittsburgh lost to Kansas City?
After the Steelers were eliminated from the playoffs, Pickens came right out and admitted he has zero faith in this offense.
“Yeah, I’ve seen signs of growth, for sure,” Pickens told reporters. “From past — first year I’ve been here, just way more growth, for sure.”
Does that make him optimistic going forward?
“Uh, nah,” Pickens said.
Pickens, 23, is under contract through 2025, at a base salary of $1.625 million. It’s also the final year of his rookie contract and will become extension-eligible. When you consider all of that, a trade feels far more likely. Wide receivers are always a hot commodity on the trade market and teams have historically paid premium draft picks for.
The former Georgia product reeled in 59 catches for 900 yards and three touchdowns. That’s not including the five catches for 87 yards and a touchdown during the playoff loss to Baltimore. Those numbers, however, are actually down from his 2023 season.
The guy clearly wants to get out of there and it’s hard to blame him. He’s basically begging the Steelers to part ways here. Pickens is also clearly more talented than he’s shown in Pittsburgh thus far.
Feel free to comment with a prediction on what you think transpires this offseason.
