NFL Draft season is upon us and there are some electric players in college football looking to hear their name called on draft night. Specifically wide receivers are some of the most fun positions to watch coming out of college. In recent years we’ve seen Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson hit the NFL running. But who could that be in the 2022 NFL Draft? Personally, I think Garrett Wilson just about has it all to be the next best thing.
As of right now in the college football season, Wison is tearing it up. Despite missing time with a back injury, he is still on pace to eclipse 940 receiving yards and over 8 touchdowns. He has quickly become one of CJ Stroud’s favorite pass-catchers, targeting him on quick slants, screens, and deep balls.
The Ohio State product stands at 6-feet 188-pounds and is a menace at all levels of the field. He is the full package at wide receiver. Starting with his route-running, he has that shiftiness and wiggle you just cannot teach. Wilson’s ability to get open on all routes is something special you don’t see every 21-year-old have. Just watch him at the top of his route here.
If that wasn’t enough to sell you on him, he is just an explosive athlete who can either blow right by you or simply outjump you. I wouldn’t say he’s super physical at the catch point like Treylon Burks, but he possesses incredible body control to adjust in mid-air. And another key point to bring up when talking about Garrett Wilson is his run after the catch ability. As we’ve seen he is an athlete, but how he makes people miss in the open field and just explodes is similar to Odell Beckham Jr.
Garrett Wilson can line up outside or in the slot, so there will be no shortage of teams looking to acquire him on draft night. Given the release of OBJ, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Browns are calling Wilson’s name. Potentially even the New Orleans Saints. Considering the Michael Thomas drama, they are devoid of any trustworthy wide receivers. Regardless of who drafts Garrett Wilson, one thing is for sure, he is the top receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft.
