Full details on Matt Riddle’s WWE release – Reports

Former WWE United States Champion Matt Riddle became the latest member of the roster to be released by the company on Sept. 22, 2023.

Riddle was let go from the company just a few hours before Smackdown was set to hit the airwaves after the man himself posted a statement on his social media, and some extra details have now been revealed.

Following the merger between WWE and UFC to form TKO under their parent company Endeavor, World Wrestling Entertainment made a number of cuts to their on-screen talent and their behind-the-scenes staff.

However, arguably the biggest release of all came after the dust seemed to have settled in the form of Matt Riddle, who had this to say on Twitter and Instagram:

The former WWE United States Champion hadn’t been seen on TV since the Sept. 4th edition of Raw, which ended in Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre being defeated by The Viking Raiders in a Tornado Tag Team match.

He was then involved in an incident at JFK International Airport in New York shortly after, where he claimed that he was sexually assaulted by a police officer which eventually led to an investigation.

Some extra details about Matt Riddle’s final days in WWE have been revealed

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Matt Riddle hadn’t been around backstage in WWE since his incident at JFK International Airport.

There were rumors that he was going to be factored into creative plans leading up to the Fastlane Premium Live Event on Oct. 8, but that was reportedly not true. In fact, Riddle was not set to be part of any plans in WWE following his airport incident.

The report gave some details on how Matt Riddle was feeling over the past few weeks. He was reportedly doing some grappling training as he usually did, and was apparently in high spirits in the days leading up to his release. However, the former WWE United States Champion had burned too many bridges within the company in the eyes of one of World Wrestling Entertainment’s higher-ups.
