Frank Reich Not Considering Benching Philip Rivers

Frank Reich must be watching a different game than I am. Number 17 on the Colts flat out stinks (mostly just washed up). Reich, the Colts head coach, obviously disagrees (mostly because he has to). Despite a horrendous showing from Rivers during the Week 5 loss to Cleveland, Reich is not considering benching him.

“No consideration of [replacing Rivers with Jacoby Brissett],” Reich said. “Philip is our quarterback.”

“Philip is playing really good football. That is the least of my worries,” Reich said in defending his QB. “Philip is playing good football. You are going to have mistakes when you get in situations like that. I know we would want the interception back, but the safety, is on me.

“You take that away and you get that one mistake, in my mind, that was the big factor. That mistake was not the big factor, the safety, but the one big mistake with Philip was the interception. That is it.”

Reich might be the king of coach speak. He will ride and die with his players. Reich previously called Jacoby Brissett a top 20 quarterback in the league, which isn’t true either. To call Rivers, “the least of my worries” is hilarious.

Rivers has become old, unathletic, and doesn’t have the arm strength he used to. Rivers finished the Browns game 21-33, passing for 243 yards and the two picks for a 60.5 passer rating. Nobody has fewer fantasy points per game than Rivers outside of Daniel Jones. Rivers hasn’t thrown for more than 250 yards since Week 1. The guy has nothing left.
