Former Premier League Star To Sign With MLS Side Charlotte FC

Former Manchester United and Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha is set to sign with Charlotte FC on loan from current club Galatasaray, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The loan is set to last through the 2025 MLS season with an option to extend the loan until the summer of 2026. This move to Charlotte will end his current loan with French side Lyon early.

After being Crystal Palace’s main man and making over 450 appearances for the club, Zaha decided to move to Istanbul to sign with Galatasaray on a free transfer rather than moving to Saudi Arabia once his contract with Palace expired.

Despite scoring 10 goals in 43 appearances for the club, Zaha never really found his footing in Turkey. Of his 38 appearances, only 18 were starts, and as time progressed it became clear that he had fallen out of favor and needed to find a new home.

A loan move to Lyon looked promising, but again, it has not worked out the way Zaha would have hoped. He has only made four Ligue 1 appearances and played in just two Europa League games, making his loan to France a disaster so far.

Despite his recent struggles, this is a phenomenal signing for Charlotte. Zaha’s pace, skillful dribbling and overall attacking threat will be incredibly useful for a Charlotte team that is looking to build on its back-to-back MLS Playoffs appearances.

On top of this, bringing a big name like Zaha to the club will drive local excitement and interest through the roof. Charlotte had the second-highest match attendance for home games last year with an average of about 35,000 fans a game. Expect those numbers to increase with Zaha in town.
