Five-Star Corner Desmond Ricks Commits to Alabama

The rich have gotten richer. Alabama has added to its loaded 2023 football recruiting class by landing five-star corner Desmond Ricks. Ricks is ranked No. 23 in the class of 2023, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Alabama’s top competition for Ricks was LSU. It was evident that one of the two SEC powerhouses would land the highly touted corner. Florida finished just behind the Crimson Tide and Tigers in the race for Ricks.

Ricks is the No. 2 ranked corner in the class of 2023. He played his high school ball at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Ricks has college height at 6′ 1″. He is on the skinny side as he currently sits at 170 pounds. That should not be an issue though, he will probably add weight once he enters Alabama’s weight room.

Ricks played light out in high school. His biggest trait is his ability to track the ball in the air. Ricks is good in coverage but he excels at making plays when the ball is in the air. That skill should easily transition to the college level.

Prior to adding to Ricks, Alabama sat atop the 247 composite team rankings. Ricks’ commitment widens the gap between Alabama and second-place Georgia.

Alabama now has seven-five starts in its 2023 recruiting class. This is led by safety Caleb Downs and edge Keon Keely. Ricks is Alabama fourth’s five-star to commit in the early signing period. The most notable was five-star duo James Smith and Qua Russaw, but they also flipped Kadyn Procter from Iowa.

Alabama’s 28-player recruiting class has 20 four-stars commits. This group of four stars makes Alabama’s class the deepest in the country. The only three-star in the class is kicker Conor Talty.

Once again, Alabama walks away from signing day with the best class in the country. The only difference is they did it by a wide margin this time around.
