FaZe Swagg Talks About Taking His YouTube Game To The Next Level

This insane boom of video game content that we are in currently is something that seems insane to most, but to some content creators like FaZe Swagg, this has been something he has always envisioned. In an interview with HECZ, the owner of Optic Gaming. the YouTube and Twitch star shared the details of how he really started investing in himself.

You can watch the whole hour-plus-long podcast here, but a few things he said stood out to me when listening. Kris Lamberson is now signed to one of the most popular gaming organizations in the world with FaZe, but he was making YouTube videos for many years before that, and he talked about taking that first big step and getting a quality computer.

“I started looking into what Call of Duty videos were getting views. I started being invested in thumbnails back in 2015, and 2016. I started getting a couple thousand views a video… There was one month that changed everything.”

“I had made about a thousand [dollars] that month before and I said to my mom I didn’t want to go to school that year. She gave me one semester off and if it didn’t work I had to go back to school… My brother had just got his refund check and I asked him to buy me a PC and I would pay him back… that next month I made 3k on YouTube and paid him back.”

Sometimes that is all it takes, someone to believe in you and take a chance when others don’t believe. Swagg is lucky that he was given a chance by his family to pursue his dream, because back then it did not seem like a realistic way to earn a living. Now, streamers like his buddy and fellow FaZe Clan member NickMercs is signing exclusive deals with Under Armour.

The game has changed forever, and Swagg will not be part of the history of the gaming boom. This isn’t an overnight success story either, he grinded back in the early days to get where he was. A great lesson for all budding content creators, myself included.
