Fantasy Hockey: Tyler Toffoli To New Jersey
The New Jersey Devils found another guy that can put the puck in the back of the net. Tyler Toffoli is on his way to Jersey, but what does it mean from a fantasy hockey perspective? Let’s talk about it because this trade has a chance to impact things in a big way for fantasy.
Tyler Toffoli, acquired by NJ, is a shoot-first top six winger whose finishing touch comes and goes. At his best he can really control possession. #NJDevils pic.twitter.com/stJWMMOtMW

Toffoli isn’t the fastest skater in the world but the guy knows how to put the puck in the back of the net. When it comes to fantasy, that’s all that really matters. Toffoli, 31, scored a career high 34 goals for a dysfunctional Flames team a year ago. Imagine what he can do skating with Jack Hughes or Nico Hischier in Jersey?
Toffoli posted 73 points a year ago. That should be more than doable again. Again, right now he’s expected to skate with Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt. It doesn’t get much better than that 5 on 5. Given the trajectory of Hughes, he’s going to pick up so many points just from playing with that guy.
Even from a D perspective, this backend in Jersey is loaded. The Devils were third in the NHL in scoring a year ago and the entire team is loaded with young players that are only getting better. It’s a perfect landing spot for a scoring winger.
Toffoli was a top 50 fantasy player a year ago and has the potential to be that again with Jersey. I worry that powerplay time may be limited but I just can’t see how he’s not scoring big goals again for a team that’s oozing with talent. Buy Toffoli stock in fantasy. I prefer Toffoli over Ondrej Palat and I don’t think it’s really going to be close.
