Fantasy Hockey: Stars Add Mikael Granlund, Cody Ceci

We’re now a few days removed from the trade that sent Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars. Chris Bagdonas and I sat down and chatted about the deal so the video you see below will be included in this fantasy hockey post and the trade grades previously published. Enjoy the extra content. Cody Ceci is a waste of time. The guy is totally unplayable. Don’t be cute and try to pick him up. With Miro Heiskanen on the shelf, Thomas Harley is the only D on Dallas that you want for fantasy.

Beyond that, I’ll say this. If you own Granlund, you should sell him to a sucker who thinks his value just went up. Most of the time, that’s the case. The problem is Granlund likely won’t see the same offensive opportunities with the Stars.

Granlund, 32, has played in two games with the Stars. He’s averaging 16:51 of ice time. He was at 20:51 with the Sharks. Powerplay time is going to come down. He won’t be on the top line because Roope Hintz is ahead of him. The Finish center had 45 points in 52 games with the Sharks. I have a hard time believing that will sustain with less opportunity to play higher in the lineup.

If you have Granlund and you’re smart, you sell him to a sucker that thinks his value went up by being on a contender. He’s been a useful fantasy asset up until this point but would be fearful it won’t continue. Too many mouths to feed on the Stars (Robertson, Hintz, Benn, Duchene, Johnston, Stankoven) to guarantee Granlund gets his. Sell him while you can before the rest of your league mates realize the same thing.
