Fantasy Hockey: Blues Acquire Cam Fowler

Cam Fowler is on the move after the Blues acquired in via trade with the Ducks. Fantasy Hockey managers always need to be up to speed with transactions around the league. Now that Fowler is employed by St. Louis, how should fantasy managers react?

Fowler, 33, has no goals and four assists in 17 games this season. Fowler had no fantasy value with the Ducks but that could change with St. Louis. Two years ago he had 48 points in a fully healthy season. It’s a matter of if he can get back to that player with the Blues.

As of right now as I’m typing this, Fowler is owned in roughly 31% of all ESPN fantasy hockey leagues so odds are he’s available if you want to take a shot on him. Early indications are he’s going to be on the top pair next to Colton Parayko. It’s a matter of if he takes over any powerplay duties. That part remains to be seen but right now Justin Faulk runs the top unit. It’s not like he’s untouchable in that role. Philip Broberg controls the second unit. If anything, maybe Broberg moves up and Fowler takes the second duty if things go well.

More than anything, getting out of Anaheim should give everyone hope. The Ducks rank basically dead last in every single scoring column. I’m not sure anybody is worth owning on that team right now. Fowler should luck his way into a few more assists even if he doesn’t deserve them.

My advice would be to use Fowler as a streamer for now. Let the thing play out. If you want to use him as a daily streamer, knock yourself out. It’s certainly possible Fowler finds his footing and probably is the best puck moving D man they have. However, Broberg probably has the most potential so if you’re taking a shot on Blues blueliners, I’d go with Broberg first.
