There is a new wide receiver in Baltimore and his name is DeAndre Hopkins. Does Nuk have any gas left in the tank and can he be fantasy football relevant with the Ravens? Let’s talk about it…
Hopkins, 32, is clearly a shell of his former self. I’m not sure there is any reason to beat around the bush on that one. The 610 yards the former Clemson product posted last year is his lowest total since 2010 and he only played ten games that year. 610 yards in 16 games at 10.9 yards per catch really says everything you need to know.
It’s beyond the numbers. Has anyone seen the guy run? I’m not sure he can run a 5.0 in the 40 right now. I’m being dead serious when I say that. The guy has zero burst or speed right now to his game. It’s all contested catch cheese and nothing more.
Let’s also think about the pecking order of this offense. Zay Flowers is easily the number one option and Rashod Bateman isn’t a total bum anymore. Mark Andrews is going to get his red zone looks plus Isaiah Likely has carved out his own role in the offense. Where exactly is the target share going to Hopkins? Plus, if the Ravens are good again, it’s not exactly going to be a team trailing throwing the ball late in games. That’s what Derrick Henry is for.
If you want to snag Hopkins for a $1 at the end of your draft, go ahead. Other than that, I’m not interested and it’s really not anything different from what I said in the embed when he got traded to the Chiefs. Hopkins really wasn’t a big factor in fantasy with Patrick Mahomes. I don’t know why that would change being another year older with other guys ahead of him established in the pecking order.
