Free agency is rolling right now and the Buffalo Bills made a mini splash bringing in Josh Palmer to round out their wide receiver room. Based on the title, you already know why you’re here so if you don’t mind I’m just going to get to the point now and talk about the fantasy football implications. Does anybody even read intro paragraphs anymore?
Look, let’s just start here. I learned this lesson a long time ago and the smart fantasy players know how to work the system. The quarterback makes the receiver. There is no point investing in players who are stuck with bad QB play. Anybody who is going to be the beneficiary of Josh Allen is a really nice place to start.
This is the real problem. We have no evidence that Josh Palmer is actually a good football player. I wasn’t a fan of his when he came out of Tennessee in 2021 and he’s done nothing to prove I’ve been wrong about him.
Let’s just go back to last year. The Chargers move on from Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Palmer has all the opportunity in the world to become a dude. He immediately gets passed by rookie Ladd McConkey and finishes the season with one touchdown on 65 targets. It’s not like Justin Herbert totally sucks either. It’s Palmer who might be the one who sucks.
Again, we have zero evidence that Palmer is actually a good football player. If I’m power rankings the Bills’ weapons to own in fantasy, it’s James Cook, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Dalton Kincaid, then it’s Palmer. What’s the ceiling here? If Palmer can do his best impression of Mack Hollins, is that a win? We might be lucky if we get that.
I have no idea where Palmer will be ranked in fantasy but my guess is it will be too high. I would take him for $1 at the end of my draft. Beyond that, I’m more than fine with someone else having him.
