The ESPN App Might Be the Worst App of All Time
If no one else is going to say this, I will. I try to have very measured opinions when I post articles, but this is one thing I refuse to be level-headed about. The ESPN App is a pile of hot garbage.
The user experience for this app is anything but smooth. Trying to find stats and results of a game is like pulling teeth. It feels so slow and clunky to navigate, and it tries to cover up poor performance with a sleek design. Looking for a box score is unbelievably annoying. Sometimes games will just inexplicably not load or force you to restart the app. It’s a complete disaster all around.
The Video Player is Sinfully Bad
And don’t even get me started on the VIDEO PLAYER. Goodness gracious, this thing is a fossil. I have never had a seamless experience trying to watch a video on the ESPN App. First, it takes forever to buffer. Then, the video quality is horrendous. And when I try to go back in the video to see what I missed the first time, the tracking function is almost unusable. Sometimes it forces you to watch videos you had absolutely zero interest in watching. That’s always fun.
It’s laughable to me that a company that brings in literal BILLIONS of dollars in revenue has an app that is this terrible. It makes zero sense and someone needs to fix it now.
While scanning the Twitter machine, I found a Twitter account from 2014 solely devoted to calling out ESPN for their awful video player. There are some real gems:
I feel bad for whoever started this account because nothing has changed since 2014. The ESPN App is just the same old garbage. Sad. In relation to what it could be, this might be the worst app of all time.
