Emmanuel Acho, and Michael Strahan. What do they have in common? Well, a lot actually. Acho is following in Strahan’s footsteps. (Photo via Fox Sports)

Emmanuel Acho Is Becoming The Next Michael Strahan

Both are former defensive players in the National Football League, although their careers played out incredibly differently. However, their post-playing careers are where the similarities can be seen.

To put it simply, after Michael Strahan retired he went into television as a football analyst. In 2008, it was announced that Strahan would be joining the Fox NFL Sunday pregame show. Shortly after that, in 2010, he got his chance to co-host “Live! with Regis and Kelly. In 2012, Strahan became the full-time co-host, and the show was retitled “Live! with Kelly and Michael. Later in 2016, ABC announced that Strahan would work full-time on “Good Morning America.”

Emmanuel Acho has followed a somewhat familiar career path after his playing days. In 2016 Acho took a temporary job with the Longhorn Network and was then promoted to full-time. In 2018, he was promoted to ESPN2’s college football programming. In June of 2020, it was announced that Acho would be leaving ESPN to join Fox Sports and replace Jason Whitlock as a co-host on Fox’s afternoon show “Speak For Yourself.”

Then, similarly to what Strahan did, Acho branched out into more mainstream media. He started a series called “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man,” after the death of George Floyd. He then wrote a book with the same title (great read by the way) that was published by Oprah Winfrey, along with a version of the book directed toward younger audiences titled “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Boy.” Acho then announced in February of 2021 that he will be hosting the 25th season of “The Bachelor’s ‘After The Final Rose'” Special.

Emmanuel Acho going from playing in the NFL, to a football analyst, to mainstream media is the same career path as Michael Strahan. Except what Acho is doing might, and probably will, lead him to greater heights.
