Eli Ricks 2023 NFL Draft Profile
Eli Ricks is one of the most talented cornerbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft. We just haven’t always seen that version of Ricks. He’s bounced around and been inconsistent during his college career. Which version of Eli Ricks are we getting at the NFL level. That’s what we’re here to talk about today. Here is your Eli Ricks 2023 NFL Draft profile!
Former big time recruit. Even switched high schools going from California powerhouse Mater Dei to IMG Academy in Florida. He then switched from LSU to Alabama during his college career. The interception production just never followed while playing for a great secondary mind like Nick Saban. Five interceptions in two years at LSU. Zero at Bama during 2022.
The story is just all over the place. Ricks got on the field right away for LSU and shined. Looks really good in man coverage. Looked like an SEC corner right away. Has good size at 6-foot-2, 188. Good length too. With Ricks, I really think you have to look at the second half of the year at Alabama. He really worked his way up the room. Maybe Saban wanted him to earn it but Ricks from a rotational guy to a pretty high end starter over the course of 2022. His end of the year tape is much better than the early season stuff. Make sure you recognize which version you saw.
No real big notes from the Combine. Didn’t run, bench, or any of that stuff. I have Eli Ricks as cornerback six in this draft. There are more proven names that I’d be much more willing to take. However, I’m not sure you can ignore the talent. If you get burned and this is a Greedy Williams situation, so be it. I’m just not sure that’s the case.
