Draymond Green believes Warriors will win NBA Title

Ever since the Golden State Warriors started the season winning 12 of their first 15, they have been bumpy. Though they were able to get some help at the trade deadline, acquiring Jimmy Butler in a five-team deal that included sending out Andrew Wiggins, Lindy Waters III and Kyle Anderson among others.

The Warriors have won three of their first four since Butler’s Warriors debut, entering the All-Star break at 28-27, tied with the Sacramento Kings for the No. 9 seed and 1.5 games ahead of the Phoenix Suns for the fourth-and-final play-in spot in the West.

Despite the lackluster record with only 27 games left, Draymond Green believes the Warriors will win an NBA Title.

“I said I think we’re gonna win a championship. But I lied,” he said on TNT ahead of the 2024-25 All-Star Game Sunday in San Francisco, Calif. “We are going to win the championship. That’s what’s going to happen.”

There’s no question that Butler, 35, has restored newfound confidence in the Warriors because of his skill set. He does things–provide rim pressure, shot create, get to the free-throw line–that Golden State wasn’t able to do consistently enough before the trade.

As a result, you’re seeing the benefits of it; the Warriors own a 116.4 offensive rating over their last four games, a middle-of-the-pack unit that would be a top-10 unit if extrapolated over a full season. It’s a very small sample, but that’s not nothing.

That said, however, the Warriors are playing an uphill battle. If they’re in the play-in, they will likely be facing either Oklahoma City, Memphis or Denver in the first-round. Each of those three teams poses matchup problems. You would need Stephen Curry to play like it was the 2021-22 Finals to beat those three teams four times in a seven-game series, assuming everyone’s healthy.

You need to have crazy confidence to win in this league. Green knows as well as anyone–he’s a four-time champion! But we can all admit that’s a strong declaration for a team that’s struggled to get off the ground for much of the season. Anything can happen in a seven-game series, so we’ll see come playoff time!
