Draymond Green says Adam Silver talked him out of retirement

On a new episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Warriors forward Draymond Green, who was suspended indefinitely on Dec. 12 for hitting Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, talked about his conversation with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

“I told him, ‘Adam this is too much for me. … This is too much. It’s all becoming too much for me — and I’m going to retire,'” Green said. “And Adam said, ‘You’re making a very rash decision and I won’t let you do that.’

“We had a long, great conversation–very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who’s more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He’s more about the players.”

Draymond Green has missed the last 13 games for Golden State–as it’s gone 7-6 over that stretch. Green was reinstated to return from his suspension over the weekend and will need “approximately a week to ramp up,” per ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Warriors have been struggling and will ease Draymond back into the lineup. There have also been reports of internal frustration. Jonathan Kuminga, a young forward for the Warriors, recently criticized head coach Steve Kerr with reports surfacing that Kuminga’s “lost faith” in Kerr.

Andrew Wiggins looks like a shell of himself from the Warriors’ NBA Finals run two years ago. The Warriors currently sit as the No. 11 seed in the West–0.5 games out of the final play-in spot.

Chris Paul also just fractured his wrist, had surgery Tuesday and won’t be re-evaluated for another three weeks, per reports. All in all, everything is falling apart for the Warriors, so it will be very interesting to see if Green can help the team turn things around.

But things to look out for are how Kerr will approach the lineup. If something doesn’t change soon, it’s clear that people will be dealt at the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
