Doug Wilson Confirms The Sharks Will NOT Rebuild

The San Jose Sharks stink. Just don’t tell the guy actually running the team that. Despite an ugly 21-28-7 record and seventh place finish in the West division, general manager Doug Wilson confirmed that the Sharks will not rebuild. They are going to run this puppy back and try to get back into contention.

“I expect this to be a very good hockey team,” Wilson said. “I expect a team every year to compete for the playoffs. If we add the right things, players get back in their cycle, they’re able to do that. I think we’ll be a very good team next year. I really do.”

Wilson does not live in reality. He lives in la la land. This Sharks team stinks. The only team the Sharks finished ahead of was the Ducks. San Jose is that bad. It’s an old, washed up team, that doesn’t have it anymore. Tomas Hertl and Evander Kane are the only players on the team that had really good years. Even with Kane, he has a bankruptcy issue going on that isn’t resolved.

Logan Couture and Brent Burns have both lost a step. Couture had his lowest point total since 2009-2010 and that was his first year in the league. Burns had his lowest point total since 2012-2013 and he only played 30 games that year.

Don’t even get me started with Erik Karlsson. I said plenty in a post I did not too long ago.

There’s a reason why this team stinks. Old, washed up, and lacking young impact talent. Oh, and the goal tending situation is an abomination. Martin Jones finished with a save percentage of .896 for a third straight season. Jones was pulled early in eight games this year. The guy ain’t it but San Jose has no other reliable options. Devan Dubnyk was traded. Josef Korenar and Alexei Melnichuk got some playing time but neither are considered anything close to a world beater.

Then again, what choice does Doug Wilson have? The second he admits the truth, the guy gets fired. Kuddos to him for lying to himself in order to keep his job.
