Does Van Jefferson Have Massive Dynasty Fantasy Potential?

Does Van Jefferson have a bright future in long term fantasy leagues? Jefferson is probably a great buy low right now in all dynasty formats. (Marcio Jose Sanchez/Associated Press)

Does Van Jefferson Dynasty Fantasy Outlook Looks Bright

For those who have been following my draft coverage know that I was all over Van Jefferson coming out of Florida. The 2020 NFL Draft was packed with superstars but Jefferson was always my favorite play outside of the first round. We’re now through two regular seasons and while the jury remains undecided on Jefferson, now is absolutely the time to buy if you’re in a long term fantasy or dynasty league.

During the 2021-22 season, the former second round pick reeled in 802 yards on 50 receptions. Jefferson also added six scores. It’s maybe not an elite season but keep in mind, Jefferson is playing behind Cooper Kupp, Odell Beckham, and previously Robert Woods. With the number of targets Kupp is eating, it’s impressive Jefferson even put together an 800 yard season.

I really like Jefferson’s fantasy outlook. We know the route running is going to be there. The explosive plays are now starting to come. The former Florida and Ole Miss wide receiver averaged 16 yards per catch this year. The necessary speed is also there. He’s just not one of those freak monsters like Ja’Marr Chase that pops off the screen.

We should remember what Jefferson did at the Senior Bowl. He was the best player on the field all week. The two other receivers that come to mind that dominated the week at the Senior Bowl are Deebo Samuel and Kupp. Both players sort of popped down the line, not right away.

We’re not sure if the Rams will ever just give the number two job to Jefferson. If they do, his fantasy value goes through the roof. There is always a chance the Rams don’t re-sign him two years down the line and Jefferson gets a massive opportunity with another team. It would be like the steroid version of Josh Reynolds leaving the Rams. If not, Robert Woods is coming off a major injury and will start to age. Matthew Stafford will be able to support a breakout season from Jefferson.

Jefferson remains a fantastic flier play in fantasy. All these young receivers are flashing immediately while Jefferson is starting to really turn the corner. I hope you’re paying attention because he’s a great buy low dynasty option and won’t be for much longer.

There is a real chance Jefferson carves out WR2 production in fantasy real soon here. With the limited number of resources the Rams have, Jefferson is part of the equation in the near future.
