Does Trey Lance Have Any Trade Value?
What the hell do you do with Trey Lance at this point? I just gotta know.
Brock Purdy is your starter. He didn’t lose a regular season game last year. In five starts, Purdy sported a 13-4 TD to INT ratio. He’s still wild in his decision making, but he’s dialed in with Shanahan getting the ball out quick to the playmakers.
It’s also obvious that Lance is not as good as Sam Darnold either. Darnold is just a way better athlete and a significantly more refined passer.
We’re all seeing it happen this preseason. Lance just doesn’t look like anything that resembles an NFL quarterback. When the play breaks down, he’s goofy in his movement skills. There is no ability in there to be a pure pocket passer. Even the mobility has been greatly overstated. Does he blow you away as a runner?
This puppy is done and I just have no idea what you do if you’re San Francisco. Do you really just keep the guy as the third quarterback on the depth chart? I’m sure you would love to get a draft pick back for Lance but what kind of trade value does that guy really have? I’m not sure I’d be willing to part with a 6th rounder at this point.
If Kyle Shanahan couldn’t figure out how to use him then the odds that your team figures it out are probably slim to none. This is the same coach that helped Matt Ryan cash in on his only MVP Award. That’s not an accident.
I genuinely don’t know what’s going to happen next outside of the 49ers hoping and praying someone offers a respectable pick back via trade.
