If you have been playing fantasy football for any extended period of time, you already know that quarterbacks that can stack rushing yards is the hidden cheat code in fantasy football. With that being said, are we possibly sleeping on Dorian Thompson-Robinson in dynasty formats? Should you buy DTR stock in fantasy football before it’s too late?
I don’t think you should spend an arm and a leg to go get DTR in your rookie draft. However, I do think he might be worth the flier. It all depends on how your league is set up. DTR has no value in redraft leagues barring an injury to Deshaun Watson. If you have to sign players to certain contracts, DTR is still a pass. Dynasty? I think he’s worth a late round shot.
The Watson factor has to be mentioned. Have you seen the contract that the Browns are paying him? Watson could get hit by the Monstars and still would keep his job for another two years. Cleveland needs this deal to pan out and the bench isn’t an option with that contract. The point is, it’s going to keep DTR on the bench for practically all of his rookie contract.
Dynasty is a different ball game. You likely have roster spots to stash guys for multiple years. Could DTR turn into a developmental success story and start for someone down the line? I believe the answer is yes. DTR is far from a finished product but he’s the most likely player in that class to replicate what Jalen Hurts did. Not as thick but the same type of athlete.
The 4.56 – 40 time is real. DTR can move and if he ever gets a shot, he’s going to pick up yards on the ground. It’s just a matter of if he ever gets into the game. Probably not something you can count on but if you’re willing to wait in dynasty formats, it may be something to keep tabs on.
Maybe think about it this way. Could DTR be something similar to Tyler Huntley with more rushing upside? Huntley has found his way into game action. You never know in this league.
