Dodgers Trade for Amed Rosario

Just a day after trading for Kike Hernandez, the Dodgers make another move in acquiring Amed Rosario from the Guardians. Ken Rosenthal was among the first to report on the trade.

While this may not be the blockbuster trade that Dodger fans have been waiting for. It’s still a trade that should in theory improve their team.

At 27, Rosario is boasting a .265/.306/.369 slash line. While not mind-shattering numbers, it should serve as an upgrade for a Dodgers team forced to put Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor at short. He will never be a big power guy but he doesn’t need to be in this lineup.

He can be protected very well and focus more on just trying to get on base. Which is what his approach should always be as a contact first hitter in 2023. The defense also isn’t great but has seen improvements in recent years.

Is this the move that’s going to automatically send the Dodgers to the World Series? No not even close, but it does serve a need and make the team better, which is the entire point of the trade deadline.

It still hasn’t been revealed who the Dodgers are giving up, but my guess is that it wasn’t a whole lot. Probably some lower to mid-level prospects that likely wouldn’t have played for the Dodgers anyway.

Overall I don’t hate this move by the Dodgers. Upgrade at a position of need while seemingly not giving too much can never be a bad thing. Now we just wait to see if the Dodgers address their needs for another arm.

Update

So the update, while I’m writing this, is that the Dodgers are giving up Noah Syndergaard for Amed Rosario. Which immediately makes this trade 1000 times better for the Dodgers. My only question is what in the hell are the Guardians doing here?

Syndergaard has been hurt most of the hear and when he has played it’s been horrible. I understand if they moved Rosario for some prospects but this just seems like they are giving him away for nothing which is just stupid.

Great trade for the Dodgers, you addressed a position of need and arguably got better by getting rid of Noah Syndergaard alone.
