Dodgers Are Interested In A Kike Hernandez Reunion
The Red Sox are facing a serious roster crunch. Trevor Story is currently working his way through a rehab assignment after undergoing elbow surgery. When Story is activated, Boston is going to need to send somebody packing. That man could be Kike Hernandez.
Boston already has too many infielders on the roster. Christian Arroyo, Yu Chang, and Kike have occupied the middle infield spots up until this point. When Story is activated, room will need to be created. Room has to be created anyway given how much middle infield depth they have in the minor league system.
Hernandez, 31, is in the final year of his contract with the Red Sox. Karl recently wrote a post about how Boston should consider DFA’ing Kike. While a possibility, the Sox could find a trade partner in LA. The Dodgers are reportedly considering a reunion with Kike.

“Los Angeles also would consider a reunion with Enrique Hernández, a league source said, if he is willing to fit into the kind of niche role the Dodgers are seeking to fill.”
A Kike reunion does make some sense. The Dodgers already lost Gavin Lux to a torn ACL prior to the start of the season. Trea Turner signed with the Phillies this past offseason too. It’s been a lot of forcing Mookie Betts to play the infield and a bunch of mediocre play from Miguel Rojas. Plus Kike brings a lot of positional versatility and can play the outfield too.
Through 85 games this season, Kike Hernandez sports a .218 average with six home runs, 31 RBI and a .276 on-base percentage. Given where the Sox fit roster wise and the season that Kike is having, the acquisition cost won’t be high either.
