DK Metcalf Has Taken Trash Talking To A New Level

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is no stranger to receiving taunting penalties, and because stopping the trash talk doesn’t seem to be an option for him, he has found a clever workaround. Metcalf has recently been taking American Sign Language classes in order to avoid those costly penalties.

I mean I kept getting flags for my mouthing so gotta sign my (expletive) talking now,” Metcalf said. “That’s what I gotta do to keep myself busy.

This is one of the more unique ways to beat the system that I’ve seen in a long time. He wasn’t really left with much of a choice after getting into trouble with head coach Pete Carroll after their Week 1 game. Although his new method of trash-talking is going viral, he doesn’t seem too concerned about the referees catching on.

I’ll just be talking to him on the side,” Metcalf said. It’s somebody else to talk to.

Metcalf used his new method of trash-talking against the Rams last weekend. He scored a touchdown on Ahkello Witherspoon and proceeded to sign the words “my son” towards him. As I mentioned earlier, Carroll got mad at Metcalf for getting a penalty after their first game. Ironically enough, that game was against the Rams.

The Rams narrowly won 17-16 in Week 11, but at least Metcalf didn’t receive any penalties for taunting!

I’m sure that the NFL will crack down on this at some point because a player found a lucrative way to have fun; as we know, sometimes the NFL stands for the “No Fun League.” He will likely get fined or told to stop at some point, similar to Tyreek Hill being told to stop throwing up the peace sign after burning defenders.

I’m sure Metcalf is waiting for his moment to put his new skill to use. The Seahawks, who are 6-5 in a playoff race, face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13 followed by division-rival San Francisco for the second time in three weeks and Philadelphia in Week 15.
